Back from Corporate

Ok. Here I am again. This time, weary and battle scared. I'm going to share some of my experience. I LOVE my Industry! I enjoy and thrive in it. The good thing about corporate is the security blanket it provides. However, somewhere down the line I became numb. It's the second time it happens, but this time I was able to identify it. I can say I learned how to appreciate our industry more and embrace it. So with so much experience in salon management and team building, not to mentioned sales tracking. I have pulled together the most comprehensive workshops for modern salon management. The difference is that there are so many tools and gadgets to use to make the jobs easier today. When I was starting none of these where available. So I did it the old fashion way, pen and paper. Long gone.. are the days when the appointment book was also the accounting log, phone book, service record and payroll data. LOL.
I remember when being a hairdresser meant easy money, now you have to run a single chair like a business. I have coached many stylists into a profitable three day a week job. The hardest part has been to get them to further develop or blossom their business by developing others. Why we do this to ourselves, That's material for another posting. For now start taking notes. How is your business running? When was the last time you did anything for team building? What is payroll costing you? what trainings are needed to continue developing? Who are the leaders in your team? Are you placing each player in the correct area? How long ago did you take a training to motivate YOU!Then sit through one of my classes and discuss the business. First we identify strengths then we figure out the rest. www.detrasdelasilla.com

See ya!

Keratin Treatment "the aftermath"

It has been a while since my last post on this blogger. There is a huge reason for it. I have been waiting for feedback from clients using the keratin treatment. Here are some of the findings I came up with. The results of the Keratin are so extreme, that clients often comment how different their hair is. Example: "it feels like someone else hair", "this can't be my hair", "I let it dry naturally and it's not frizzy". Amongst many other comments these happen to be consistent. after two to three months of following my directions, consumers tend to contact me with comments such as "I'm back to normal again" or "I think my Keratin is gone". For those who did not have to use thermal appliances, the treatment did last the full three months. For those who USED thermal appliances the treatment lasted a little less than three months. However, it is of huge importance that a shampoo without SODIUM CHLORIDE be utilized for maintaining the treatment.
I had a question sent to me not long ago. Is it true that a person using Keratin treatment, experience more damaged hair after the treatment has worned off. That is very likely IMPOSSIBLE I'll tell you why. the treatment replenishes the hair with the missing protein. Keratin is vital for the hair and this is the only thing in the market right now that can repair and have the longevity. Due to it's technology the contrast between the time it's done to the time the clients needs to redo it, is dramatic to say the least. So the consumer using this product will see her or his hair as damaged to the extreme because they just had it fixed to an extreme. I have clients that have done this three times already and their hair seems to get stronger and stronger in the shaft and ends where the majority of the damage had occurred. I don't think this has the capacity to damage hair but people do have the capacity to forget how damaged their hair was prior to treatment.

BEAUTY INDUSTRY TOXICS?

I just came from the San Juan Beauty show, Which by the way is not much different than the IBS in New York. I find it to be overly priced, instead of a significant emotional experience is an abuse to the Puertorican market. The "Nanokeratin", "Brazilian Keratin Treatment" and the "Nanoqueratina del Caribe" had a fierce competition. One... offering to exchange equipment with the salon promising to buy at least every two months the supply for the treatment. The Other selling the one box of six treatments at $250.00. The complete system at $900.00 with compressor and one box of treatment. Now If I was to buy this product I would have to inflate the price of service to $120.00 for a short hair client. Someone with shoulder length is looking at $280.00 and up. Now... what they all failed to inform the Professionals purchasing these systems is if a client has a chemical service such as color on a monthly basis the treatment will deactivate! Or shampoo's with SODIUM CHLORIDE will also strip the keratin from the strand of hair! Try finding a shampoo without this ingredient in it.

This occurs with all of the Keratin treatments, regardless of brand. Some "Formaldehyde Free" Brazilian Keratin Treatment contains 2% Ether!, which is an anesthetic with side effects such as nausea and lung irritation. Now, I did purchased the nanokeratin treatment by "Tanagra"www.tangra.com.br I like it so far... but still take caution by wearing a mask, Then again I do the same when I use my airbrush tanning solution. Let's face it all of the chemicals in our industry will eventually cause some trauma to our lungs we are the ones more exposed to these vapors. A client might be exposed to it temporarily but we are there day in day out.
Till next time.
